The word triptych comes from Greek. Tri, "three" and ptyche "fold" triptych is a picture that is divided into three sections, displayed together to form a complete artwork. They were first used as a hinged writing tablet consisting of three leaves, used in ancient Rome. These days we still love them take the idea into our living rooms and walls as art.

How it works

First think about your image - wide panoramas are easy to imagine as triptychs. Tall thin portrait shots can be split into three panels. A consideration is whether there are key features at the join areas - is so they will be split apart so faces or words landing on the joins will not work to well.

You can use our image checker service to seek advice on best size and splits. For example a panorama (long wide landscape) shaped photo may fit the eventual size of 90x30cm - we would evaluate the image for concerns and tell you the eventual size - 90x30cm produces as 3 panels of 30x30cm. This means it can also work at 180x60cm producing 3 panels of 60x60cm. Once you know the individual panels sizes from us, you select Quantity 3 of the panels size in our shopping cart e.g. 3 lots of 30x30cm and supply us the one image. You request the triptych in your notes and instructions.
